United College Hockey Trip Beats Pine Falls 5-4

The United College hockey team traveled from Winnipeg to Pine Falls for two games. They won the first 5-4 after a fast, clean match where Spud Guin of Pine Falls was named outstanding. The next day Pine Falls outshot 8-1 in an exhibition as Berard was injured and Guin finished. Local fans praised U C players and hoped for a return victory next year.

Electors of Lac du Bonnet School District No 1235 approved by law to borrow 30000 for a new school. Of 105 ballots, 104 favored the by law. Plans approved, tenders issued, and construction expected by fall.

Canadian Boy Scouts See Camp Attendance Rise

National census shows nearly 15 200 scouts attended 524 camps this season. Last year 12 709 campers attended 457 camps, an increase of 2 462 campers and 67 camps.

Major Foote VC among three ex Boy Scouts to win

Major John Foote the Presbyterian Padre and recent Victoria Cross recipient is the third former Canadian Boy Scout to earn the decoration. Foote was a Scout in Madoc Ontario as a boy. Other Scouts to win the VC were Lt. Col. C C Merritt of Vancouver and Major John Ferguson Hoey of Duncan British Columbia. In all two former Boy Scouts in the Empire have won the coveted decoration.

First former Boy Scout named British cabinet minister

John Hynd is named Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and becomes the first former Boy Scout to reach a British cabinet post. As a youth he joined the 29th Perthshire Troop in Scotland, nicknamed the Seaforths for their Sea forth kilt.

Named Executive Commissioner Named Executive Commissioner

Squadron Leader H B Holloway has been named Executive Commissioner of the Boy Scouts Association in the Province of Alberta. Holloway has long tied to Scouting since 1932 serving as Secretary of the Edmonton District Association and later District Commissioner for Training. Born in Simla India his father was in the Indian Army. He was educated in Britain and came to Canada in 1928.
