Ladies' Bonspiel Crowned By Mrs W Frederick rink

The Ladies' Bonspiel ended Tuesday March 2 with Mrs W Frederick's team winning the curling trophy and three smaller cups. Members included third Mrs W Roy second Mrs Ford and lead Mary Ford. Other items note bowling results and local social news across Lac du Bonnet.

Weekend Visitors and Homecoming Across Town

Wednesday marked the last day of a two month East trip. Lena Vanberg and Joyce Naiden were weekend guests of Mr and Mrs Bob Parkes at Holiday Beach. Mrs T J Wood visited Winnipeg to see her sister Mrs Fifer. Mrs Gaulet of Bird River visited town for the week. Glen Demeria returned home after several months away.

School Lunches and local activities shared in student notes

Marjorie Tomlinson and Helen Coates of the Cooking Club spoke on School Lunches urging hot meals and milk. Brown bread was recommended and milk encouraged. Girl Guides attended an evening service at St John’s with Rev. Bissell. Curling Club plans an Amateur Hour March 22. Grade V and VI students prepare hand made items to be sold around March 19. Oscar Bjornson spoke on India based on wartime travels. Easter exams begin for Grades VII and VIII. Verna Brown crowned Carnival Queen on February 29. Spring fever fears teachers will face soon.

Friesian Heifer Sets World Milk Yield Record

A Friesian heifer from Britain, Craig het Rosan owned by a Belfast farmer, produced 31 339 pounds of milk in 365 days at 4 76 percent butter fat. The figure equals 1 492 pounds of butter fat, tying a world record.
