Helena Chezik nee Springer aged 69 died at home on March 2. Funeral held March 7 at St. Pauls Lutheran Whitemouth. Born Chernikroff Russia September 18 1878 she emigrated to Canada and homesteaded in Whitemouth district. Survived by husband Michael seven sons two daughters 28 grandchildren one great grandchild and sister Mrs Ernest Malkoske.

Polish veteran dies in Manitoba logging accident
Mike Kowalchuk, 31, a Polish veteran and member of the Manitoba Polish Combat Legion, was injured by a falling tree while logging at Seven Sisters Fall on March 2. He died March 5 at Winnipeg General Hospital. An inquest at Russell's Beausejour funeral home ruled accidental death. A military funeral was held March 11 at St. Mary's church Beausejour with pallbearers from the Polish Legion Winnipeg branch.

The Whitemouth Bonspiel concluded Friday March 5 with J Thomson's rink winning the grand challenge. The Eaton event was won by P R Paulsen's foursome in a tight final against J Walleghem's rink.
