Thompson seeks to freeze state revenue sharing in Illinois budget
Gov. James R. Thompson proposes to cap local revenue sharing by freezing the income tax transfer at this year's level, diverting about 24 million dollars to the state treasury. The plan, backed by some lawmakers and opposed by many local officials, would cut 57,322 dollars from Carbondale’s 1982 share and shift the burden onto towns and counties.
