Joe Rosenthal, AP photographer of the Iwo Jima flag raising, died at 94 in Novato California. He won a Pulitzer for the 1945 image that became the Marine Corps War Memorial and inspired later iconography including the World Trade Center photo by Thomas E. Franklin.
