Rites Held For Nora Van Winkle Pioneer Resident
Funeral services were held for Nora Van Winkle 86 of Silsbee at the Farmer Funeral chapel with Rev. Eugene Dickey and Rev. Bob Roberts officiating. Burial followed in Knupple Cemetery. She died at 3 20 a m Monday in Silsbee Doctors Hospital after a lengthy illness. A native of Lampasas she lived in Silsbee since 1907 and was a Woodrow Baptist Church member. Survivors include three sons Morris Eddie and Billy Van Winkle three daughters Evalena Baggio Lorena Gibson and Jimmy Work a brother John Mosely eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren Pallbearers were Ronnie Randy Billy Eddie Van Winkle Mike Gibson and Linwood Jones.

Felice Damps Area As It Passes Northwest
Tropical Storm Felice brought little rain and wind to the Silsbee area Tuesday night as it skirted within forty miles, with Civil Defense units on standby. The storm entered the Texas coast at High Island, crossed Trinity Bay’s northern edge, and weakened as it moved northwestward across the state. Maximum reported winds near the center reached seventy miles per hour.

Commissioners Set 2 PM Redistricting Meeting Today

SISD Atlantic Tax Hearing Ends In Stalemate
After seven hours of testimony the Equalization Board of the Silsbee Independent School District adjourned Tuesday with no settlement of the Atlantic Richfield tax dispute. Atlantic argues a 100 percent value around $12.26 million vs SISD’s $15.35 million. Attorneys for Atlantic and SISD presented witnesses. no date set for a new meeting.

Juveniles, man charged in three auto thefts in Beaumont area
Larry Franklin Jones 19 and a 16 year old were arrested Sept 6 by Silsbee and Beaumont police on warrants for the Sept 6 thefts of two stereo tape players and a citizen band radio from three autos in Beaumont. Blood said Jones was held on $2,500 bond and the juvenile was sent to Hardin County authorities. Both suspects identified by palm prints.

Auto Stolen From Caraway's Found in Mississippi

Evadale Youths Charged With Theft
Two seventeen year old Evadale youths were arraigned on felony theft charges in Hardin County. They were freed on $2,500 bond each and arrested on warrants for Sept 2 thefts from a vehicle at the Neches Club on US 96. Goods valued at about 600 were recovered.

Man Charged In Sept 13 Knifing In Silsbee
Hannon Hollyfield Jr. of Silsbee was charged with assault with intent to murder after an alleged Sept. 13 attack on Sylvester McNeeley, also of Silsbee. Bond set at $5,000. Hollyfield was free on bond by Sept. 16. McNeeley was treated at St Elizabeth Hospital and listed in fair condition.

Silsbee police logged three thefts since last Sunday. Danny Fleming reported $69 in stolen truck equipment including a $25 battery and $45 tools. Steven Atmar said $31.95 vanished from an outdoor cash register at Billups Service Station. Herschel Muckleroy reported a $25–$30 theft from a soft drink machine at O’Neil Elementary School.
