Rites Held For Nora Van Winkle Pioneer Resident
Funeral services were held for Nora Van Winkle 86 of Silsbee at the Farmer Funeral chapel with Rev. Eugene Dickey and Rev. Bob Roberts officiating. Burial followed in Knupple Cemetery. She died at 3 20 a m Monday in Silsbee Doctors Hospital after a lengthy illness. A native of Lampasas she lived in Silsbee since 1907 and was a Woodrow Baptist Church member. Survivors include three sons Morris Eddie and Billy Van Winkle three daughters Evalena Baggio Lorena Gibson and Jimmy Work a brother John Mosely eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren Pallbearers were Ronnie Randy Billy Eddie Van Winkle Mike Gibson and Linwood Jones.

Felice Damps Area As It Passes Northwest
Tropical Storm Felice brought little rain and wind to the Silsbee area Tuesday night as it skirted within forty miles, with Civil Defense units on standby. The storm entered the Texas coast at High Island, crossed Trinity Bay’s northern edge, and weakened as it moved northwestward across the state. Maximum reported winds near the center reached seventy miles per hour.

Larry Franklin Jones 19 and a 16 year old were arrested Sept 6 by Silsbee and Beaumont police on warrants for the Sept 6 thefts of two stereo tape players and a citizen band radio from three autos in Beaumont.
