Public Hearing on 70 71 City Budget Set for Sept 22

The Silsbee City Council will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. September 22 in City Hall to review the proposed 1970 71 budget of 610 368 dollars. Manager Ronald Hickerson notes the balanced budget includes no tax increase and funds for sanitation water and sewer fire police library and a 7 percent city employee raise.

Beaumont Men Save Silsbee Youth After Creek Accident

Larry Gene Beddingfield, 15, reportedly broke his neck diving into Village Creek at Lumberton on Labor Day. Doug Bond and Danny Atkinson of Beaumont rescued him as air bubbles surfaced, and he was hospitalized in Beaumont in fair condition two days later.

District Court Opens Oct 5 With Trial Of Civil Cases

Commissioners Told to Work With Redistricting Committee

U S District Judge Joe Fisher in Beaumont ordered Hardin County Commissioners to consult the Citizens Redistricting Committee and consider expanding it to reach a more unanimous plan. The court had approved a 3 2 vote redrawing precincts, moving Caraway and Barrington into new areas, with Fisher demanding a report by Oct 5 and warning against disenfranchising residents ahead of the November elections.

Silsbee Schools To Verify Civil Rights Compliance

An inspection by a Dallas HEW civil rights team will visit Silsbee ISD on Sept. 17 to verify steps for 1970 71. Don L. Hough says the visit will check district compliance after HEW's earlier actions to end the freedom of choice plan and absorb Robinson Elementary into other schools.

Atlantic Richfield SISD Tax Board to hold Sept 15 hearing

The Atlantic Richfield Oil Corp and the Silsbee Independent School District tax board set a formal hearing for 9:00 a.m. Tuesday September 15 in the SISD board room. The hearing will review Atlantic’s proposed taxable evaluation of district property including plants and stations. Superintendent Don L. Silsbee Man Arrested On Felony Theft Warrants

Jesse Lee Issacks of Silsbee faced felony theft charges in two cases. Police say $459 in insurance checks from Simmons Motor Co. and a $400 till-tap at Drake's Drive-Inn in Kountze were taken. He was arrested September 5 in Kountze, arraigned before Judge Rex Moore, and held on $5,000 bond.
