Auto Insurance Rates Rise 17 Percent in Texas
The State Board of Insurance announces an August 1, 1958 rate increase due to higher collision costs and medical expenses. Average increases are about 19 percent for liability and 17 percent for collision, varying by territory and class. Texas remains among the lowest rates among large states, with underwriting costs cited as the reason for the hike. Judge Penn J. Jackson notes companies must cover future claims, not recoup past losses, while drivers determine annual rates.
