After a Tuesday thunderstorm the Silsbee area faced power outages for hours. Linda Green 15 nearly electrocuted by a high voltage line while shielding family car. Gulf States Utilities reports a main transmission line hit by lightning and repaired, with minor injuries and two inches of rain flooding Fifth Street downtown and Payne Road.

Governor Price Daniel Visits Silsbee For Coffee

Governor Price Daniel of Liberty visited Silsbee with his family and spoke at a Bluebonnet cafe reception. About 50 locals attended as he recalled early politics and voiced opposition to a general sales tax and a state income tax, urging turnout for Saturday polls and precinct conventions.

Chemist Charles Priest to lead Caracas mill project

Charles J. Priest, chemist at Fast Texas Pulp and Paper in Evadale, will fly to Caracas to head the technical and research department at C. A. Venezolana Pulp and Paper, a new mill near Puerto Cabello. His family will join him in August with operations expected by September 15 for a three year term.

The Ladies Golf Tournament was held Tuesday morning at the golf course. Mrs. Bruce Watts Jr and Mrs. R A McMahon tied for first place. The next meeting will be August 12 at the golf course with Mrs. Watts presiding.

Funeral services for W. H. Rose of Silsbee

W. H. Rose 56 a local building contractor died at work Tuesday morning. Services were held at 10 a.m. at Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. T. C. Vaughn officiating. He had 31 years as a carpenter in Silsbee and recently contracted to build the Presbyterian manse. He is survived by a wife, a son, seven daughters, two brothers, two sisters, 23 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. burial at Knapple Cemetery.

Methodists Vote To Continue Early Services

The First Methodist Church will keep Sunday worship at 8:30 a.m. through August and September. Rev. Bruce Power announces the official board approved continuing the early services after a July trial gained general congregational support. Sunday School times remain unchanged.

Three From Tyler County Pay Fines For Letting Livestock Run At Large

Three Tyler County men Tim Nelson E F Nolan and Robert Olson paid fines and costs in county court for letting cattle run at large. Robert Hood paid 25 and costs for driving with license suspended. County records show 23 arrests that week including one felony DWI one DWI one license suspended and several traffic theft and drunkenness cases.

Local B P W Club Officers Attend Port Arthur Buffet

Mrs Mary Louise Fore of Groves district director of district 14 of the Texas Federation of Business and Professional Women's clubs entertained presidents and guests of ten clubs at a buffet luncheon Sunday at the Port Arthur Country Club. A planning meeting for the district conference on September 27 28 at the Jack for Orange House in Orange followed. Grand Jury Indicts 5 in Hardin County

Five indictments were returned to 88th District Court in Kountze by the Hardin County grand jury. The counts include two theft charges, one child desertion, one attempt to commit rape, and one forgery. A related embezzlement case involving Frank Aldridge was not docketed, and the grand jury will reconvene August 18 unless a special session is called. Frank Doyle Farmer pled guilty to a second offense DWI and was fined $250 plus costs after a plea agreement with the district attorney.

Judge Fletcher Richardson Named On Grievance Body

Silsbee attorney and Hardin County Judge Fletcher Richardson was named to the Texas State Bar grievance committee for the Second Congressional District for a three year term. President Leo Brewster of Fort Worth made the appointment. Joe H. Tonnhill of Jasper was named an ex officio member representing Hardin County lawyers.

New $27,000 Baptist Parsonage Nears Completion in Woodlea

The First Baptist church parsonage on Cypress St. and Woodlea Blvd in Woodlea Addition is nearing completion with occupancy hoped by mid August. Construction by S. D. Armour of Silsbee with Carey Williamson as building committee chair reports a 2000 square foot layout featuring three bedrooms two and a half baths combined living and dining room kitchen large family room sun porch patio and two car garage.

Not Too Soon For Master Plan Here Silsbee Lions Told

Silsbee Lions heard that it is not too soon for the city to start a master plan for development. Tom Campbell, Beau mont master plan commission planner, spoke and was introduced by Darrell Shine. Dr Wade Parker called a directors meeting for Friday at his home and asked reports from budget and program committees. Silsbee Polio Case Involves Six Year Old Girl

Silsbee reports its first polio case of the year a six year old girl Ladelia Moshay admitted to Martin DePorres hospital Beaumont with anterior polio. Dr George Tennison says she has shown some improvement and will survive. Upon admission she could not walk and later developed residual weakness in the hip. The girl had one Salk shot months ago. Parents are Mr and Mrs Levi Moshay.

Aunt of Local People Buried Near Center Tuesday

Funeral services for Mrs. Otis Hughes 73 of Center Texas were held at Short community near Center Tuesday afternoon. She was the aunt of Martin Wilson and Mrs. Joe Register of Silsbee. Mrs. Hughes was found dead in bed Monday morning by relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Register attended services.

Cunningham Seeks New Trial In Murder Case

Convicted killer T. C. Cunningham appeared in district court in Hardin County requesting a new trial and appeals review. Judge H. A. Coe noted the motion was late but allowed consideration while Cunningham pressed for a review by the Court of Criminal Appeals. He then went before the Hardin County grand jury with new evidence and maintained his innocence. Cunningham was returned to Huntsville after the session, guarded in prison whites and shackles.
