Graveside services for Henry Jason Runnels 46 of Silsbee were held at Franks' Branch cemetery after a head on crash north of Buna last Thursday. Runnels, a Kirby Lumber Corp. sawmill gate guard, died instantly. two Pasadena, Texas residents in the wreck were hospitalized. Runnels survived by wife Etter and several children.

Two cases heard in county court at law during the past week per County Judge Fletcher Richardson. Eric Harris pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated on July 28, fined 50 dollars, costs, and three days in jail. Margaret Paine fined 1 dollar and costs on hot check charges July 21 after pleading guilty with restitution. Fourteen total jailed that week. Deputy Dave Rountree noted arrests included eight drunks and investigations for burglary and traffic.
