Range conditions improve cattle outlook for 1958
McHaney notes stock should winter in good condition with ample hay and grain. State range feed at 80 percent on Jan 1 1958 vs 51 percent a year earlier, 69 percent ten year avg. Demand for range cattle remains in 1958 if moisture allows. Meat output unlikely to change much though cattle and calves slaughter may fall while hog slaughter rises and heavy cattle carcass weights support totals. Lower pork prices later in 1958 boost pork-beef competition.
