Earnest Williams president of Satsuma Valley Amateur Radio club demonstrated portable radio operations to Silsbee firemen. He showed a generator powered station used at the station and discussed standing links with Suitt in Silsbee and Tesson in Woodville to keep rescue teams connected for reinforcements and supplies. Firemen voted to buy four handy talkie radios for woods searches and emergency work as part of a developing rescue squad aided by donor Ambulance from Farmer Funeral Home.

Former Silsbee Resident Killed in Waxahachie Car Crash
Joe Moffett 21 former Silsbee resident was killed January 31 in a car wreck near Waxahachie. Funeral services were held February 1 in Stafford, Texas. He was son of Mr and Mrs Joe Moffett Jr and formerly worked for Houston Oil Company. Companion Wilbur Kennard was hospitalized in Waxahachie in critical condition.

Negro Pleads Guilty To DWI Count In County Court
Willie Youman a Beaumont Negro pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in county court and was fined $50 with costs and three days in jail. Paul Jones of Kountze was held on $1000 bond on aggravated assault. The arrest report listed 15 inmates including three traffic, one DWI, one drunk in car, one theft, one arson, and one car theft. Two juvenile hearings were set in district court with three Silsbee youths charged with burglary and a 14 year old girl held on delinquency charges.

Local Man Receives Head Injury on Beaumont Job
John Coen 30 of Silsbee sustained a head injury Tuesday afternoon at a Beaumont construction site. Struck by a timber he was taken to Baptist hospital for treatment. The injury is believed not serious. Coen works for Balco Inc at Fourth Street and Laurel in Beaumont.

Mrs. Lena Mitchell, 84, longtime Silsbee resident, died Wednesday morning in Riverside, California after a period of illness.
