The 1957 58 tree planting season closed with record pine seedling numbers. Five cooperators planted 580 000 seedlings on about 700 acres, led by Nona Mills Company and Dishman Lucas Estate. Previous totals stood at 350 000 seedlings on 400 acres, with a district goal of 60 000 more acres or 54 000 000 seedlings to reach full production. Planting addresses unproductive lands left by timber harvests and aims to interplant on weaker stands to achieve final production.
