Double Funeral For Two Hardin County Traffic Victims
Funeral services were held for Betty Jo Rutledge 27 Sour Lake and her nine year old daughter Lynda Irene in Sour Lake First Methodist Church. Rev. Charles Danheim led burial at Rosedale Cemetery. Lynda Irene died when Grace Malone’s eastbound car rear ended Rutledge’s eastbound pickup, flames trapped the girl, a central fire unit fought the blaze. All four occupants of the Malone car were hospitalized along with two Malone sons James Steven 8 and William Franklin 6.

Silsbee Chamber of Commerce directors voted at a special April 17 meeting to hire a part time secretary for 100 dollars a month. Mrs Lenox Hawthorne will assist Chamber Manager H C Hopkins in the afternoons. They also set a May 15 community progress forum and approved paying Dr Richard Setzer of Lamar Tech 50 dollars for banquet speaker services, with any pay forwarded to his church.

The Hardin county grand jury returned 11 indictments to 88th district court in Kountze last week. District clerk Willis Selman reported. Indictments include theft, child desertion, DWI second offense, two robbery by assault, three defrauding with worthless checks, and three forgery charges.

Silsbee Man Hurt After Truck Overturns Near Buna
B F Gilbert of Silsbee suffered severe injuries to a hand when a pickup truck overturned about three miles west of Buna on highway 92 Wed evening. A trailer of cattle shifted during the crash, causing the vehicle to tip. Gilbert was treated at the scene and rushed to Hotel Dieu hospital in Beaumont by Farmer ambulance.
