The West Nebraska Methodist Episcopal Conference meets in Sidney for its 22nd annual session. Bishops, pastors, and lay delegates discuss appointments, secretary and treasurer elections, standing committees, and district reports. The event includes temperance talks and a missionary society anniversary with lectures on Indian religious ideas.
Harry Barrett father of County Clerk R E Barrett died at his Lodgepole home last Sunday morning. Born in Ireland in 1833 he came to America about 1860 and worked for Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific, serving as section foreman and later in charge near Lodgepole. Surviving are his widow and seven children. The body was buried in Sidney Catholic cemetery after funeral services by Rev Father Sullivan.
Mrs. F Hollister of Cheyenne visits Mrs Hart this week. A B Knox suffers rheumatic aciatic ailment for a week. Bert Bates of Lodgepole dined at the sheriff home Tuesday. Dr Scoggin of Platte Valley News visited Sidney Thursday. Rev W J Austin and Mrs Austin, formerly here, attended conferees. Rev Hawk of Lodgepole greeted friends. Alva Witters of Cheyenne visited parental homes. Mrs Frank Igenberger and Mrs Dr Yarlett of Lodgepole attended the conference. West Liberty residents plan a basket dinner at the M E church during conference. Judge Williams from Bridgeport went east on professional business. Auber Perking moved with family toward Dalton to buy two sections. Lee Nunn of Bridgeport sold his Redington valley ranch for 5000 dollars. he owns another south of there. M Meyer of Omaha, Krug Brewing rep, was in Sidney Tuesday, did not attend conference. Mrs Lehmkuhl of Lodgepole and Mrs John Lehmkuhl of Wahoo visited Mrs Knox during conference. Jos Overfelder appointed by Gov Mickey to represent Nebraska at American Mining Congress in Denver October 16 to 19. Herman Bockstadter’s son born Friday night too late for paper. he weighed ten pounds.
The Democratic county convention at the court house last Saturday elected Joan M Adams as chairman and C P Chambers as secretary. It endorsed Fred Schank for commissioner of the first district but left the county attorney spot blank. John Daugherty became county central committee chairman with Chase Anderson as secretary for two years. precinct committeemen names follow.
