Street Fair Struggles With Poor Weather In Sidney

The Sidney Street Fair drew a smaller crowd as rain over the weekend wrecked plans. Attractions failed to materialize, booths were canceled, and merchants lost booth income. The balloon ascent by Prof Chas Broadwick faced rain and wind but drew a crowd when successful. Local musicians and performers supplied nightly concerts and dances despite financial and attendance challenges.

Sidney to Get New Telephone System Franchise Granted

B A Lathrop of Prescott Iowa secured a twenty year exclusive franchise for Sidney’s new telephone system at the last Friday’s Village Board meeting. The plant should be completed within ninety days with lines to Lodgepole Potter Kimball and Bridgeport and connections to Alliance North Platte Cheyenne and Denver. Monthly charges will be 2.00 for business houses and 1.25 for residences. Lathrop plans to personally oversee work and operate the central office with either himself or Mrs Lathrop after completion.

Obituary: James W. Grosvenor Dies at Home

James W. Grosvenor died at his Sidney, Nebraska home after a two week typhoid fever illness and a fatal stomach hemorrhage soon after his brother Will visited him. Born in Polk County he moved to this county in 1892 and married Dessie Davison on August 20, 1899. He was a Sidney M W of A member and left $2,000 insurance. funeral at the M E church Sunday at 2 PM with large attendance anticipated.
