Government to drill artesian wells in western Nebraska

F H Newell US Army engineer visited Lincoln and discussed plans to sink artesian wells in western Nebraska to determine depths for a steady water flow. Tests suggest 1000 feet in eastern Kansas Nebraska and Dakota, with deeper depths in western Nebraska. Field Engineer Darton will select locations as Newell advocates irrigation storage in Wyoming and Colorado. It may be too late for canal work this year.

Strayed mares sought near Sidney Nebraska

Two mares missing from the owner in Sidney Nebraska. The buckskin mare has white forehead stripes a bar brand on the left shoulder and a bull-ring on the right hip. Funeral for Jus. Grosvenor at M E Church

Jus Grosvenor’s funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the M E church. Rev Gilpin led the service with Rev Austin assisting, and Modern Woodmen members in charge of the casket. Uniformed pallbearers and a large lodge delegation attended as the church was full. The solemn service continued at the city cemetery with the lodge conducting the ritual.

Feet Crushed by Train In City Yard Accident

Olaf Pearson a city carpenter was struck by Union Pacific train No 4 while crossing near the yards last Saturday evening. He suffered severe foot injuries one foot was amputated midway between ankle and knee and the other was crushed but may be saved. He was taken to the Commercial Hotel where a surgeon was summoned and he is reported doing nicely and expected to recover.

The U P telegraph office and the roundhouse gain a new telephone link while the Burlington trims an Alliance Guernsey branch train to one each way every other day. A new electric light plant and well site are eyed for Sidney with plans to employ many workers at the depot yard and shops.
