Salem Lutheran Church to mark 65th anniversary celebration
The Salem Lutheran Church in Gurley observes its 65th year with a 10:30 a.m. Sunday service led by Rev Carl Pullman of Anoka Minnesota, descendant of the founder, followed by a noon lunch. Dr Henry Nierman will speak at 2 p.m. choral music performed by Mrs Raymond Kuehn Mrs Virgil Horst and organist Mrs Mildred Sorge. The congregation recently updated sanctuary lights parament banners carpet and interior paint while preserving its historic altar. The church traces back to founder Rev George Pullman who started the congregation in 1910 with land from William Juedes and later built its first facilities, enduring through German language roots to English language use by 1938. The present church remained active with youth and women groups and 103 baptised members reported.
