Mrs. C. Lindberg receives a U. S. government report confirming the death of her son Oscar Lindberg on August 26 from gunshot wounds received accidentally. He was the sole heir, served about two years in the U. S. Army, saw service in the Philippines and Siberia with the American Expeditionary Forces, and had written of plans to return home.
The Oakland Acorn covers the marriage of Miss Lula Vieth to Mr. Frank Haiston of Omaha Nebraska. The ceremony at the bride’s home featured Rev. Charles M. Edmondson with music by Mrs. IL. Dool, and a rose ring bearer. They plan a westward tour and will settle in Omaha after October sixteenth. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. Carm Barnum of Leon and the Harveys of Omaha.
Mr George W Luce and Miss Rene Pinske both of Bayard Nebraska were married last Wednesday at the Methodist parsonage by Rev L E Lewis. They were accompanied by Steve Karnes and Emma Kline and will reside in Bayard after returning that evening.
Mr Cecil Ray Newman of Cheyenne Wyoming and Miss Margart C Hei man of Hereford Colorado wed at the Methodist church parsonage by Rev L E Lewis on Thursday September 18 They departed by evening train for Cheyenne to begin their future home together.
James Bradley and Claud elle Sebastian of Sidney were married by Rev. L BE Lewis on Wednesday September 17 at the Methodist church parsonage. The couple will make their home in Sidney.
Albert Thompson was a Sidney caller on business. Joel Huhler left for Omaha to drive out an Oakland for a customer. Miss Zena Moshisky of Cheyenne stayed with sister Mrs Jacob Mahr. George Holcum of Union Pacific was in Sidney to look after the company interests. Mr and Mrs Sam Fine returned from Denver for business and family matters. J W Cage of Lodgepole goes to Detroit to pick up a Dodge from Osborn Motors. Mr and Mrs J R Birdwell of Dalton in Sidney for business and visiting friends. plan winter in California. Elvera Drevier, daughter of Mr and Mrs J J Driever, fractured her arm playing on a teeter board at Central School Monday. The fracture was reduced and she is recovering well though unable to attend school for a time. No lasting ill effects expected.
Elvera Driever expresses gratitude to her schoolmates for their kindness and favors after the accident. She thanks them for their interest and support during her recovery.
A Monday night quarrel at the Calm and Cheerful Avenues junction escalated into a rumpus with bellicose gentlemen trading harsh words. No Marquis of Queensbury rules applied, spectators stayed out of it, and the decision crowned the best fighter as the winner. The notice pivots to ads for fall hats from Elite Milliners and car parts at Willard Service Station.
The Ladies of the Christian Church will hold a bake sale on Saturday October 4 at Cash Grocery. Also advertised is Goodyear plain and non skid tires for Fords and larger cars from M. W. Osborn Motor Co. The Telegraph ad urges local merchants to advertise.
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture warns farmers sowing wheat this fall to test seed germination due to lower than normal yields. The 1918 average germination was 98.85 percent, but recent samples show 50 to 91 percent. Send doubtful seed for free germination testing and beware Daniel seed contamination from shipments.
