Plans unfold for big I-80 celebration in Sidney

Plans for the October 19 completion of Nebraska’s I-80 project center in Sidney with governor Exon and astronaut Overmeyer as grand marshals. The statewide celebration features a youth assembly, NASA film showings, a flag parade, several exhibits, art displays, races, flyovers, and a banquet, drawing officials, contractors, and communities along the route.

Comprehensive plan amendments tabled by Sidney City Council

The Sidney City Council tabled consideration of amendments to the comprehensive development plan pending a conflict of interest review of four Planning Commission members. Trails West National Park proposed for Oregon Trail corridor

Ogallala officials outline Nebraska Travel and Recreation plan to link the Oregon Trail region into Trails West National Park. The proposal envisions a North Platte River corridor for canoeing and hiking, info centers at rest areas, preserved historic sites, and expanded Panhandle attractions under National Park Service management. United Fund drive nears goal with 14 percent filled

Sidney United Fund reaches about 14 percent of its 13000 goal with 1807 collected today. Advance gifts total show encouragement from 200 names yet to respond as the drive plans October business and door to door phases led by Jack H Lowe and Bull Wolf with coordinators at the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce and Pizza Hut. Proceeds support ten organizations including Red Cross Salvation Army Boy Scouts and United Services Organization.

Blood clot found in Nixon right lung medical update

Chinese experts tour High Plains Lab at Sidney Nebraska

An 11 member delegation from the People's Republic of China visited the High Plains Agriculture Lab near Sidney to study breeding, seed production, and crop growing of cotton, corn, wheat, and soybeans. The group also toured Ray Cruise farm and met local guides before continuing a U S tour of land grant universities under CSCPRC auspices.
