Camper Fire After I-80 Sidne y Crash Injures Minor

A one-vehicle crash near the east Sidney Interstate 80 interchange left a 1967 Chevrolet pickup with a camper on its side after a brake failure. Gasoline cans ignited, destroying the camper and causing $5,000 in damage. Passenger from Sacramento suffered a bruised nose and burns. a young child was uninjured. Sidney Fire Dept and Cheyenne County Sheriff assisted. scene cleared after nearly an hour.

Writers workshop draws 35 at Sidney Senior High Cafeteria

Thirty five attend the first writers conference hosted by the Penhandlers and the Adult Education Enrichment Program at Sidney High School Cafeteria. Wayne Lee urged natural writing, advised cutting to essentials, and noted frequent rejection slips. Clark Fuller and Faye Tanner Cool spoke on writing for adults and children. Judy Kuehn was elected Penhandlers president, with Maxine Parks as vice president and Marian Lenzen as treasurer. The workshop plans another session next year.

Sidney United Fund 1974 reaches 11 percent of goal

The Sidney United Fund 1974 campaign tops 11 percent of its $13,000 target with advance gifts totaling $1,472. The drive funds 10 local charities and enters the second phase, the business drive, October 1 and 2. Volunteers are requested to contact Bill Wolf Frank Partsch or attend a meeting at the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce offices next Monday at 7:30 PM.

Sidney Planning Commission may revisit Arlo Jones rezoning

The Sidney Planning Commission may hold a special session to reconsider denying Arlo Jones commercial zoning for a 10 acre south Sidney tract. If the League of Nebraska Municipalities finds a conflict of interest among some members, legal counsel could prompt rescinding the vote.

Sidney City Council Sets Action on Amendments

Sidney City Council will act tonight in regular session at 7 30 p m in City Hall Chambers open to the public. The meeting will review amendments to the 1969 comprehensive plan including a new future land use map reflecting recent growth and Interstate 80 completion. A Northside Recreation Program inclusion, code book update by the League of Nebraska Municipalities, variances for Nelson and Brannock, bids for two police cars, and a Board of Equalization for Paving District 113 are on the agenda.

Nebraska Telephone Association Convention at Sidney

The Nebraska Telephone Association will hold a convention in Sidney on Wednesday and Thursday. The meeting is expected to draw 50 or 60 people and is significant for Sidney as most members are customers of the ICI Eltra plant. A plant tour is planned with transport arranged by John Elwell to take delegates to the ICI Eltra plant Thursday at 9:30 AM.

Youth Camp Board pushes development at Lodgepole Valley

Frances Craig reports on the Lodgepole Valley 4-H Campgrounds renovation with a mid 1975 completion target and plans for four A frame dorms a large central building a kitchen dining and recreation hall. The board set subcommittees for fund raising budgeting winterizing existing structures and scheduling activities. Plans emphasize maximum use recent kitchen upgrades with a temporary cook shack now in use and donations from the Nebraska Panhandle Community Action Agency. Community groups including Logan County 4 H junior leaders the Sidney Jaycees and Girl Scouts contribute time money and materials as planning continues for a log type new building and cost considerations. The next board meeting is planned for Oct 21 at the Ak Sar Ben cabin with public attendance encouraged.
