A grassland fire north of Lisco burned more than 50 acres before neighbors and Lisco firemen could contain it. The blaze, likely caused by an electric fence failure on Ted Cranmore’s Broadwater land, spread before it was noticed. Lifesaving crews responded but the area was already burning.

Loss High In Pair Of Accidents East of Chappell
Two late night crashes east of Chappell involved five vehicles. A 1968 Peterbilt semi was hit from behind by a 1970 Ford, which then struck a 1966 International, tearing down fence and a Wheatbelt pole. Drivers Curry and Smith were hospitalized with scalp lacerations and a back fracture respectively. A second crash followed as a wrecker hauled the semi from the ditch.
