Indian Love Call Wins Dalton Parade Prize at Festival

Dalton marked the 32nd Fall Festival plus a Golden Anniversary with a two day pageant and parade. The Indian Love Call float by the Dalton Lions Club won the $75 sweepstakes. 2,000 people watched six bands and 32 parade entries along Highway 385. Honorary King and Queen were John Davison and Elsie Ewing.

City Acquires 42 Acre Park Expansion Land in Sidney

City Manager Tom Coffey announced Sidney has acquired a 42.1 acre tract east of the existing park for expansion. The Union Pacific sold the land for 10000 with a condition it be developed as part of the city park. The area will add playgrounds softball and little league fields tennis courts and space for smaller sports.

Third C of G Quarterly Dinner Draws 130 Attendees

About 130 people attended the third Chamber of Commerce quarterly dinner last night. Rev Conlin Jr of Denver spoke on humor’s value. Col and Mrs Harvey Bower of Sioux Ordnance Depot were guests. Dick Smith hosted. Rev Clinton Thompson gave the invocation.

Soviet Premier Nikita Arrives Nearby in Nebraska Flight

Khruschev and wife Nina bypassed Sidney on a flight from San Francisco to Des Moines around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. The jet, at 32 000 feet, passed over Sidney North Platte Grand Island Fremont and Omaha before heading toward Bayard and a Garst farm stop near Coon Rapids. He was due to reach Pittsburgh by 11 p.m. local time.

Dalton Railroad to Appeal Ruling on Dalton Station Closure

Nebraska State Railway Commission grants Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad permission to discontinue agent service at Dalton Neb with custodian substitute. Rain last week aided wheat seeding and germination in Nebraska. It slowed dry bean shatter, advanced harvest in the upper Platte Valley, reduced range fire risk, and eased pasture for livestock. About 26 percent of wheat was planted last week, totaling 40 percent seeded, with corn and sorghum maturing, beets developing, safflower and soybeans progressing, and cattle marketing gaining momentum.

Loyd S. Tilghman appeals a Cheyenne County district court dismissal of a workmen's compensation case against R. D. Mills Construction Company of Sidney. The 1957 accident prompted the claim under Nebraska's Workers Compensation Act. the workmen's compensation court and district court both dismissed the suit.

Gas Tax Hike Authorized to Fund Interstate Highways

President Eisenhower signed a bill raising the federal gasoline tax by one cent per gallon for 21 months starting October 1 to fund the 41,006 mile Interstate Highway program. The national rate will rise to 4 cents a gallon, boosting total taxes to 10 cents or more in many states.

Sidney Band to Attend Band Day at Wyoming

Sidney's high school band will travel to Laramie on Oct 3 to join Band Day for the Wyoming Utah football game. George Hinn says sponsors and band members will be guests of the University and tickets are urged to be secured through Wiles Hallack at the University of Wyoming. The trip by bus departs Saturday morning and returns Sunday.
