Nebraska Experiment Station Bulletin No. 66 details experiments on feeding lambs with alfalfa or prairie hay, with or without shelter, and various grain rations. Eight lots averaged 50 pounds at start, 78 pounds after 100 days. profits per lamb ranged from 1.04 to 2.05 dollars, with overall average profit 1.60. Alfalfa fed lambs gained more (52 percent) than prairie hay groups, and shelter influenced results.
