The 1977 78 handbook introduces a merit system starting with 100 merits. Loss of merits results in a parent conference after 16, with demerits for cutting class removal unexcused absences tardies stealing profanity cheating forgery destruction of property gambling and rule violations. A 30 merit loss triggers a three day suspension with a failing grade in missed classes.

SHS students attend summer clinics across sports and journalism
SHS students joined clinics for journalism at Colorado State University Fort Collins August 18 20 with 160 attendees from multiple states. Other camps included Lindsay All Star Camp in Pueblo for girls basketball with 11 players and coach Bill Willburn, a Holyoke basketball clinic with Jodi Wamsley and Pam Swanstrom, and Durango Durango for boys basketball with 130 participants. Twirlers clinic in Seward July 13 15 and Denver cheerleading clinic June 27 30 involved many athletes. ACT test dates announced for 1977 78 year with registration details and fees.
