University of Nebraska extension pesticide expert John Furrer warns that users of herbicides such as 2,4-D Banvel D and silver may be liable for damages to neighbors crops and ornamentals. Negligence includes spraying with wind drift excess heat and humidity, using hazardous formulations, and applying where spray can reach nearby properties. To reduce risk he suggests timing applications in spring or fall using amine formulations or granular products, using low spray pressure, covering desirable plants and notifying neighbors before spraying.
