Guilty Plea To Perjury Charge In Sidney Driver Case

Norman Gutherless of Sidney was bound over to district court yesterday on perjury charges. He pled guilty at arraignment before Cheyenne County Judge C W Smith after signing an affidavit for a duplicate driver license claiming his original license was not suspended. The original license had been suspended six months for driving under the influence. Judge Smith set bail at $500.

Trio Is Saved From Asphyxiation Death

Three Sidneyites Frank Boyle his wife and their daughter Ruth were rendered unconscious by carbon monoxide from a soot clogged chimney. They were revived and rushed to Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital where all were reported recovering. Fire Chief Vizina urged checks of furnaces and ventilation as colder weather arrives.

Sidney Council approves sewer machine purchase and zoning actions

The Sidney City Council buys a $3 627 20 sewer cleaning machine from Flex-Red Pipe Tool Co Dallas after Schneider's higher bid failed to meet specs. It also rejects Log Cabin Tavern public dancing permit and discusses ordinance changes on dancing liquor violations weed cutting and weed abatement on Keedick property. Two paving districts are created and nine building permits issued valued at 100 450. The manager may pursue a Legion Park diamond and Pine Street railroad land swap for paving.

Call for Nebraska Wheat Queen Nominees at York Show

The call is out for Nebraska wheat queen candidates to reign over the Steve Wheat Show at York on October 31. Entry blanks were sent to the Sidney Chamber of Commerce with a October 21 deadline. Any farm or rural youth group can sponsor a candidate, with qualifications including Nebraska residency, single status, age 16 or older, and family income from wheat. Former wheat queens are ineligible. Judging bases are appearance, personality and poise, with regionals determining a princess and a queen from the princesses.

Truck Impacts Sidney Home After Unscheduled Ride

A 1948 Fritz Cleaners truck went rogue on Manor Road at about 11 am striking a 1938 pickup and then crashing into the home of W H Robbins at 107 East Drive. August Labor Demand Rises As Supply Drops In Sidney

Nebraska State Employment Service reports August shows higher labor demand than July and August 1956. Local supply remains low, with demand extending beyond farming into non agricultural work. In four counties 3 914 contacts were made, 203 referrals to non agricultural openings, 2 594 referrals to farm work, and 100 placements by Volunteer Farm Representatives.

Fourth Road Death Noted

Cheyenne County records a fourth motor vehicle fatality of the year as 78 year old William H. Mohr of Scribner Nebraska died from head injuries after a car was struck by an extra freight train near Dalton. His son Howard was injured but survived. Funeral services are set in Scribner Congregational Church. Survivors include two sons, three grandchildren, a sister and a brother.

Funeral services are planned for 2 p m Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Gurley for William Harm Frerichs 80 a Cheyenne County homesteader and long time resident who died Monday afternoon in Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital He married Bertie Wickard Jan 4 1905 and they lived on nearby homesteads before moving to Colton Sidney and Gurley Survivors include his wife five daughters six sons a sister and a brother with 58 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren listed by name along with other relatives Burial will be in Babb Cemetery two miles east and three miles north of Gurley Craig Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Youth Driver Involved in $450 Collision on U S 30

At about 4 p m yesterday a 1952 car driven by LeRoy J Diedrick 17 of Sidney rammed the rear of another 1952 car one and one half miles east of Sidney on U S 30. The other driver Mrs Fisie Hirsch 24 of Sidney escaped injury while damage was estimated at 450 dollars.

County’s Tax Take Hits 1.78 Million in 1956

Cheyenne County Treasurer M. M. Inhelder reported $1,777,667.60 in 1956 taxes collected by noon Saturday August 31. He noted the tallies cover real estate personal property and motor vehicle taxes and that 94 to 95 percent of taxes have been paid. Distress warrants will be issued October 1 and the sheriff will handle delinquent personal property taxes. The county real estate delinquent list will appear in The Telegraph in October.
