United Fund Sets $12 000 Goal For Sidney Drive

Dr. H C Q Nelson announced Sidney aims to raise twelve thousand dollars in the United Fund drive with six organizations contributing. The plan includes allocations for Boy Scouts Girl Scouts Red Cross Salvation Army Kings Daughters and Civil Air Patrol plus 700 for an emergency reserve and 730 for administration. Divisional chairs named and kickoff events scheduled with twenty captains to recruit three workers each.

Scottsbluff Industrial Corp plans a drive for 93000 dollars in subscribed capital to acquire land and build a multi purpose facility. President Robert R. Table From Trailer Is Found In Street

Loot stolen from a trailer house at the Commonwealth Trailer Lot near Sidney last Thursday night included a table and four chairs. The table was recovered by Wayne Stearley at a Sidney service station, who heard a table fall from a car trunk and alerted sheriff's deputies.

Addition For Hospital Getting Closer In Cheyenne County

The State Hospital Advisory Board backs a 100000 grant to Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital for a new east wing to serve as a home for the aged. Total project cost is about 250000 with Hill Burton funds at 40 percent. Local support includes up to 150000 from the Doran Foundation and 20000 Ford Foundation money, aiming for a spring start and late 1958 completion.

Ammunition Truck Off Highway Near Sidney narrowly avoids crash

A semi trailer carrying 1% tons of live ammunition veered off Highway 30 five miles east of Sidney to avoid a head on crash with an eastbound gas transporter. Driver Harlan Minor, 36 of Denver, escaped injury as the load toppled the trailer, no fire occurred, and damage was about $350. Three wreckers and a telephone crew assisted as the convoy passed and the ammo did not break loose.

Gurley Farmer Dies at Dalton Hospital

Richard F Chapman 83 of Gurley died in Dalton Hospital where he had been a patient three years. A Cheyenne County resident since 1914 he farmed near Gurley. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm from Craig Mortuary with Elder Donald Peterson officiating. Burial Greenwood Cemetery. He was born June 22 1874 in Persia Iowa married Elsie Garrost March 5 1902. Survivors include wife Elsie four sons Arthur Grant Emerson Richard one daughter Mrs Edwin Rihn nine grandchildren 20 great grandchildren and one sister Mrs Gertie Garrost of Walthill Neb.

Improvements Under Way at Sidney Country Club Facilities

The Sidney Country Club clubhouse is undergoing a face lift with north side picture windows to improve city views. Plans include water line joins to city mains, potential remodeling, and proposals for a swimming pool and grass greens on at least nine holes. Financing ideas discussed include borrowing, selling bonds to members, and an insurance plan. President Walter Closman reports strong play with wins in recent weeks. Catherine Reynolds and Claude Reynolds manage catering, bringing acclaimed food and service. Membership remains below goal but improved facilities may boost future interest. Car Hit by Train Injures Nebraska Man

A 78 year old Scribner resident, William Mohr, improved at Dalton's Pioneer Hospital after his car was struck by a Burlington Railroad train one mile south of Dalton at 8 35 Saturday. His driver, Howard Mohr, 49, also of Scribner, was hurt but less seriously. The train, about 25 mph, hit the car's right rear causing about 2000 dollars damage to the 1957 model.

Car Stolen Here Found In Colorado

A car stolen in Sidney Tuesday morning was found abandoned Friday two miles east of Dillon Colorado. It was owned by Mr and Mrs Orval Schmitt of Sidney. All contents were intact including business records clothing and fishing tackle. The car was drivable with a broken window as the only damage.
