Storm Lashes Western Nebraska With Early Frost Fears
The region felt a sharp cold snap as Monday morning hit 39 degrees signaling a potential early frost. After ten days of violent weather, clear skies prevailed but rains and floods worsened travel routes between Kimball and Burns. Union Pacific rerouted westbound trains through Julesburg and Sterling to La Salle and north to Cheyenne as heavy showers and hail caused washouts and debris across Lodgepole and Dry Creeks. Cheyenne County soaked, Sidney reported over half an inch of rain with strong winds. Farmers, delayed by muddy fields, feared reseeding as some had to rework planted areas and aim to finish by mid month.
