New Oil Fields Ignite Hopes For Nebraska Production Rise

Nebraska oil observers note progress as new fields in Scotts Bluff Banner Morrill and Cheyenne counties spur leasing and drilling. Interstate bids sought for 1.7 million highway work

Nebraska plans to open bids Sept 24 on 1.7 million dollars of highway projects. Work includes 5.2 miles of Interstate 80 between North Platte and Maxwell Interchange, grading and paving plus culverts and fencing, and a separate eight-tenths mile Fourth Street project in North Platte. Also includes 0.2 mile at 72nd and Pacific Street in Omaha. Funding from federal Interstate and urban aid, city and state construction funds.

Eddy Field Well Starts Drilling In Cheyenne County

Pan American Petroleum Corp hires Exeter Drilling Co to drill a new well in the Eddy oil field west of Dalton Nebraska. The Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation says drilling tools should have been moved to the site yesterday.

Big Sale Sept. 12 at Sidney Livestock Pavilion

The next special sale is set for Saturday September 12 at the Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion. Listings are now being taken. Manager Dave Truss said he helped handle a 1200 head shipment of steers and heifers for the Eldred Ranch near Alliance this week. Prices were good and additional Eldred shipments are anticipated.

Damage High In Wednesday Wreck

A Wednesday morning crash at 13th and Illinois damaged two out of town vehicles. Leonard Russell, 49, of Potter, hit a 1964 station wagon driven by Thomas Supples, 27, of Littleton, Colo., causing $491.34 damage to the Supples car and $100 to the Russell pickup.

Potter Days Celebration Opens With Parades and Free Events

Potter prepares a two day autumn festival led by D Fred Enevoldsen with exhibits in the Merscheim building and town garage. Dalton vs Potter football at 7 30 p m and a free Legion Hall movie kickoff the weekend followed by a Saturday parade, races, buffet lunch, barbecue at depot park, prize drawing, a Legion Hall dance with Dixieland by the Five Kings Men and carnival attractions by Green Amusement Co of Denver.

Dalton Fall Festival to Close Autumn Series in Dalton

The Dalton Fall Festival wraps up the Cheyenne County autumn observances on Monday and Tuesday, September 14 and 15, featuring two parades with a morning 10:30 a.m. and a lighted 7:30 p.m. procession. Exhibits include agricultural and flower displays, with prize money totalling $75 for first, $50 for second, $30 for third, $25 for fourth, and $20 for fifth. A sweepstakes trophy honors the overall float, plus a best commercial float and a Wheatbelt Public Power District sponsored lighted float trophy.
