August rainfall exceeds two inches in Cheyenne County

A August weather report from the High Plains Agricultural Lab shows Cheyenne County receiving over two inches of rain with August total at 1.187 inches for the area and 1.027 inches the prior year. High temp reached 98 on Aug 29 and a low of 38 on Aug 25.

Kansas front could bring rain Tuesday

A stationary front across northern Kansas and a Gulf of Mexico air mass moving into Nebraska Tuesday heighten the chance of scattered showers and thundershowers. Temperatures should range from the 50s to mid 60s in the west and north, with highs mid 70s to upper 80s in the southeast.

Bale Hint of Diamondback In Hay Bale Sparks Shock

Farmer Joe Kiellan of Sidney found a diamondback rattlesnake in a hay bale during binding. The snake was alive though stunned, and Kiellan brought the bale to town Friday to be photographed.

Potter-Dix Days Draws Large Crowds Under Bicentennial Theme

Crowds packed Potter and Dix events over the weekend. Highlights included parades led by local color guards, royalty coronations for Potter and Dix, a Bicentennial parade with floats and bands, a nighttime queen’s dance, and a free barbecue with 1 000 servings. Arts and crafts shows, Chautauqua programs, prize drawings, and street dances wrapped the celebration with activities for all ages.

Frontier CAB to Meet Sidney City Council Tonight

Representatives from Frontier Airlines and the Civil Aeronautics Board will meet the Sidney City Council at 7 30 p m in City Hall Council chambers. City Manager Maynard Dils anticipates a review of Sidney's airline service. W E Gehrig seeks lower lot rates in Greenwood Cemetery Babyland. The council will set Sept 22 as the hearing date for Loraine Brungardt package liquor license replacement. A hearing on Street Improvement Project No 7 and Paving District No 115 will fix assessments.

Nelson named to commission for Nebraska technical colleges

The governor named Dr H C Nelson of Sidney to the Nebraska Coordinating Commission for Technical Community Colleges along with 11 other Nebraskans. The commission will provide advisory supervision under the new law and coordinate postsecondary education with the 1202 Commission as Governor Exon urged legislative action in 1976.

Sidney Board of Education Sets September Meeting Agenda

The Sidney Board of Education meets at 7 45 tonight in the Junior High School Library. Reports include student needs assessment for guidance by Rod Freeman and a language arts curriculum study for grades seven through 12. A joint board faculty committee on extra duty teaching, gasoline bids, and Superintendent R J Pedersen's appointment as district LB 403 representative are on the docket. Plans for use of school facilities for private lessons and a state board meeting agenda are also listed.

UNL Zip Codes Clarify Lincoln Campus Mail Routing

University of Nebraska Lincoln mail now uses four zip codes to separate official campus mail from student mail. 68588 and 68583 identify City and East Campus offices while 68508 and 68503 still serve student residence halls and Greek houses.

CROP campaign aims to ship Cheyenne County wheat to India

Cheyenne County ministers organize a two phase CROP campaign to fill a 3 500 bushel wheat car and raise 2 000 for shipping to an export point. Farmers donate grain, non farmers funds. volunteers contact elevators, car loaded in Sidney. Hunger walk planned later.
