REA Loan to Add Four Substations and Extend Lines

Wheatbelt Public Power District will use a 529000 Rural Electrification Administration loan to build four substations at Bridgeport Redington Broadwater and Big Springs. The plan includes 24 miles of new service line to reach 59 new customers and transmission line upgrades over two years.

Stage Show Is Booked Friday At Elks Auditorium

Tommy Scott's Hollywood Stage Show is booked into the Elks Auditorium Friday night for one performance at eight o'clock. Top feature is Col. Tim Mc Coy, a veteran stage movie and rodeo entertainer. Other acts include folk singers acrobatics song and dance acts jugglers clowns and performing animals. Tickets at the door or through Sidney businesses that sponsored the show.

Grounded Planes Delay Sioux Depot Inspection

The planned visit by two State Education Department representatives to Sioux Depot was postponed due to bad weather and grounded planes. Originally slated for Tuesday then today, the inspection will be rescheduled for next week with no fixed time. The aim is to assess property facilities and equipment for a trade school and meet an Oct. 1 deadline for a takings list and recommendations.

A gas well in the Sioux Field along the east edge of Sioux Army Depot is Midwest Oil Co s No 2 Lieber. Tests recovered 1 8 million and 1 7 million cubic feet of gas per day. Cheyenne and Banner County activity also noted with new drill sites and potential producers.

Panhandle forecast shows showers later in week

Partly cloudy tonight and Thursday with light rain showers possible. Lows 40-50 tonight, highs in the 70s Thursday. Five day outlook calls for 2-8 degrees below normal with daily changes and highs 65-75, lows near 40. Showers and thunderstorms expected Thursday or Friday and again Sunday and Monday.

Crops Team Is Champion At Nebraska Fair

The Cheyenne County Crops Judging team won first place at the State Fair with a score of 1360 out of 1500 among 30 contestants. Individually, Steve Linton tied for third, Gene Nelson placed sixth, and Keith Rexroth finished eighth. Rollie Rexroth was the fourth team member. Lincolns results will be published as received. Ivan Liljegren notes Cheyenne County sent a large 4-H delegation and also dominated in the 4-H Song Contest with Clover Leaf Drovers. The Very Busy Bees of Lorenzo won blue in song, Kitchen Kitties of Sidney earned red, and mixed choruses earned two purple and one blue ribbons.

Pony Express Delivers Films to Fox Theatre in Sidney

National publicity circles The Sidney Telegraph reports Fox Manager Vern Austin staged a stunt delivering film prints for two western features to the Fox Theatre by horseback. Nebraska Needs Oil Discoveries To Halt Slump

Paul Roberts of Sidney, engineer for the State Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, says Nebraska must find several large new oil discoveries to reverse a sharp production decline. He notes August output around 46,000 barrels daily, down from 52,065 last August and 68,374 in August 1962, with total 1966 production forecast at about 16.8 million barrels, a 12 percent drop from last year, aided only by secondary recovery projects.
