State Engineer L N Ross said Nebraska will finalize the exact routing of the Interstate from Omaha to Lincoln and then extend the plan west by year’s end The $40 million 1967 58 program includes 17 miles under construction between Lincoln and Omaha with 6 miles finished Traffic on the Lincoln to Omaha segment is expected in 1960 Colorado is being consulted on Big Springs area connections and Julesburg linkage while Sidney concerns about traffic drainage from US 30 are noted and a 2 year study with federal geologists continues

VFW Member Drive Dinner Set For Tuesday

Nebraska State Engineer L N Ress rejected Time Magazine’s Aug 25 piece listing Nebraska as lagging in interstate work along with South Dakota Montana West Virginia and Indiana He noted 16 to 17 miles of interstate under contract and 12 miles under contract last year He said Nebraska plans to spread interstate work over 15 years to avoid forcing a 35 to 40 million dollar annual program and major contractor and personnel expansion.

Former Chappell Resident John Brown Dies in Gering

John Michael Brown ell 72 of 1165 Sixth Street Gering died suddenly Saturday morning at a Scottsbluff hospital He had lived in Gering since 1935 after moving from Chappell Brown was born November 4 1885 in Loup City Nebraska He moved with his parents to Aurora where he attended school He later attended Doane College and an auctioneering school in Chicago.

Rural Youth Caravan to Spend Night in Sidney

About 40 Rural Youth members will stay in Sidney Tuesday evening for a state planning session. Lila Meyer notes the gathering at the 4 H building on the fairgrounds with local RY members hosting and Louis Keller in charge. The visitors will depart after a 7 30 breakfast and proceed to Estes Park Colorado for a national RY meeting.

New Academy Assured Here

Father Thomas Siudowski announced a new St Patrick Academy building is assured with plans in motion. The fundraising total reached 210090 in cash and pledges toward a 250000 goal. more funds will come from crops and income. The project advances with architects, and plans include ten classrooms a study hall a science lab and a convent for twenty five. The new structure would sit south of the church replacing the rectory and the old school will be razed and grounds landscaped.

59 Drivers Lose Permits In August

The Nebraska point system reports 59 drivers lost licenses for one year in August, including one Sidney driver. Maurice Jacobsen, head of the finance responsibility division, notes this is 45 fewer revocations than August last year and calls it the largest monthly reduction this year.

Postal Volume Up In August

Sidney post office reports August revenue 9335 dollars up from 5418 a year earlier and 5691 in July. Assistant Postmaster Leo Gorman attributes the rise to higher postage rates and increased business. He notes a 23 percent gain for the first two months of the current quarter and cites postal activity as a business barometer.

Former Dalton Man Is Dead At Gering

Clarence Roy Tompkins, 74, a former Dalton resident, died at his home in Gering Friday evening. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 in Gering with graveside rites at the Dalton cemetery at 3.
