Ash Hollow Battle of 1855 on Blue Water Creek
A historical note marks September 3 as the anniversary of the 1855 Battle of Ash Hollow also called Battle of the Blue Water. Major Harney led 1200 soldiers to confront Sioux under Little Thunder, resulting in heavy casualties and the capture of leaders. The pursuit aimed to secure the Overland Trail and avenge prior massacres, but the battle sparked lasting tensions and poor recognition of Native claims.
