Despite chilly winds and threatening skies, the Old Settlers Reunion parade and events proceeded Monday. Gene Lienemann hosted the program with Rev. Carl L. Nelson of Sidney as main speaker, remarks by K. J. Dykman and Jennie Smith, and introductions by George Minshally. Dance entertainment from the DeVonne School of Dramatic Dance and a Wayne Horgl led combo provided music, with prizes from local merchants.

Third Sabin Polio Dose Set for Sunday at Two Locations

Weekend Traffic At Record High On Labor Day Weekend
Nebraska Highway Safety Patrol reports the Labor Day weekend saw the heaviest traffic in memory on Highway 30 with 50 offender contacts in four hours. Most violations were speeding improper passing and license offenses. No serious accidents injuries or fatalities occurred. Patrol used an airplane for daytime monitoring. Offenders were mainly through traffic and local drivers tried to do their best.

Vandal 18-Year-Old Held in Cheyenne County Jail
An 18-year-old Sidney youth, Joe Apodaca, is jailed in Cheyenne County charged with breaking and entering and malicious destruction of property after breaking into Globe Telegraph Printing Co. at 1133 Jackson St. He reportedly kicked in the glass, triggered tear gas, and caused extensive damage inside the plant. Police say he refused to answer questions and offered no motive. Officers, including city and county deputies, responded to a 12:36 a.m. call and captured him inside the building. Damages are estimated at 500 to 1500 dollars, with possible impact on two presses. Apodaca has prior minor offenses.
