Finis To Long Dedicated Careers At Public Library

Two familiar faces Miss Nellie Niemeller and Mrs Coral McKay are leaving the Sidney Public Library after long service. Niemeller helped since 1949 and led public duties including the OPA office during WWII while McKay led the children’s section since 1950. They recall many memories including a boy who could not get his father to sign a library card. Both plan to continue active public service.

Third Of A Million Cattle Deal In Sidney

The Sidney Live stock Sales Pavilion handled a sale of 2,000 cattle for three operators grazing on Sioux Army Depot land. Buyer Herb Klug of Columbus Neb will take delivery around Sept 13 and feed the cattle on local feedlots. Sellers include Edmond Weber Denver J M Kennedy Ainsworth and Arthur Gifford Fremont trading as G and K Ranch. The sale totals about a third of a million dollars, one of the year’s largest in the high plains region.

World Famed Counsellors To Conduct Sessions In Sidney

The Sidney Ministerial Assn sponsors a two day conference on The Art of Love Marriage and Family Living with Dr. Sylvanus and Dr. Evelyn Duvall set for Monday and Tuesday Sept 13 and 14 in Sidney. The couple head social science and adolescent study programs and have authored multiple books on family life. Funds to cover costs may be sent to Rev. Carl Nelson of Light Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Historic Sidney Property Sold To Warren Ellison

Warren Ellison has purchased the building at 10th Ave and Illinois St in Sidney once housing The Winter Drug Co and The Oasis. The Grace Schulte estate sold the property, which was built by Charles Callahan, later owned by J. J. McIntosh, and then by the McIntosh and Schulte estates. The corner has long hosted a drug store, with the Callahan family living on the second floor and a large fireplace noted in the north wall.

Christmas Benefits to Reach 20 Million Social Security Recipients

The White House announced a back payment of over 885 million dollars in Social Security benefits to more than 20 million people. The retroactive 7 percent increase, allowed by the 1965 Social Security Law, applies to payments mailed September 15, totaling about 2.3 billion dollars for September. Beginning October 3, monthly payments will include the 7 percent raise.

Short Change Charge Erased In Local Jobs

Three men held overnight on charges of obtaining money by false pretenses were released as charges were dismissed. They paid costs and restitution after allegedly taking 50 dollars in Sidney with short change. identified as Edell Willingham Casey Robertson and Ebick Brandt. They traveled in Brandt's car with Minnesota plates and were described as carnival workers.

Sidney public schools report total enrollment of 2101 this term down 85 from last year as rural and area districts adjust. Burlington Railroad plans ICC action to drop two daily passenger trains 31 and 32 between Alliance and Casper Wyoming. The two trains carried North Platte Valley travelers to Lincoln and lost 98 629 dollars in 1964 with RPO car removal costing 76 000 dollars annually. Train 31 runs Alliance to Casper via Scottsbluff Guernsey, then returns by 9 45 p.m. to connect with Train 42 to Lincoln and Omaha.

Leases End On 4198 Acres In Cheyenne County 65 66

Leases on 4198 acres of state school land in Cheyenne County expire in 1965 and 1966 and will be offered for sale under a new law LB234 after Gov. Morrison vetoed the earlier bill. The action sets the stage for sale of more than 40,000 acres in the county if bids meet law provisions. The measure, introduced by Sen. Ramey Whitney and co sponsored by Sen. George Fleming, aims to broaden trust fund investments.

The House Armed Forces Committee approved transferring Sioux Army Depot to the Air Force and GSA. The Air Force will control the portion needed for the Minute Man Missile program while the rest becomes surplus real property. Frontier Boardings Hit The Sidney Airport Milestones

Frontier Airlines activity at the Sidney Airport topped the five-a-day goal for a second time this year with 172 passengers in June. August 151 boardings surpassed 1964's 134, while July saw 131. Year to date totals ran 119 in January, 92 in February, 109 in March, 129 in April, and 122 in May.
