Agate Monument Planning Starts In Short Time

Preliminary work on Agate Fossil Beds National Monument development will start in mid November with a master plan to be prepared and reviewed by year end. Senator Roman Hruska and Assistant NPS Director Clarence Montgomery indicate swift action once funds are available, as Congress approved the monument this year. A five year program may begin with a first year appropriation of 125 thousand dollars.

Frontier Air Mail Time Changes Effective Oct 31

Airline schedule changes take effect October 31 as Frontier expands weekend and weekday flights. New southbound northbound and eastbound itineraries include Flight 51 to Denver and Flight 54 to Omaha, with revised post office air mail cutoffs at Sidney. Four-vehicle collision on Illinois Street near 14th Avenue caused no injuries.

Bayard Man Heads District VI in Nebraska Education Assn

Sidney Chase was elected President-Elect of District VI at the two day Nebraska teachers convention in Sidney defeating William G. Kelley. Ellen Christiansen of Alliance becomes the district president this year succeeding Hugh Purser. New officers include Ruth Flaherty, Char les Morehouse, and Dr. Edwin Nelson. Total teacher registration reached 1 501, about 200 above expectations.

Liljegren Heads to National Meeting and Nebraga Officials

Cheyenne County Agent Ivan Liljegren flies to Pittsburgh for the National County Agents Assn convention. He will join Nebraska officers Sunday and later attend the state conference in Lincoln November 8 to 12. The United Fund has reached about $8 391 as of this morning with urging to donate.

Bank Deposits Steady Despite Poor Year Cheyenne Banks

In Cheyenne County five banks report deposits holding firm despite a poor crop year and staff cuts at Sioux Army Depot. On Oct 13 deposits totaled about 16.6 million dollars, vs 16.544 million a year earlier, with both demand and time deposits unchanged.

Panhandle forecast shows mild fair weather ahead

The Panhandle region is forecast fair and mild tonight and Saturday with lows around 30 to 40 and highs near 60 to 70. The five day outlook calls for temperatures 4 to 10 degrees above normal through Wednesday with mainly minor day to day changes, highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s, and little or no precipitation.
