One Week's Highway Toll In Deuel County Six Dead

In Deuel County over two weekends three head on crashes killed six people all mothers with children. Oct 23 near Chappell claimed Mrs Glenn Jarman Veronica and Danny Jarman. Oct 30 at Big Springs Junction killed Patricia Raasch Sally Raasch and Stevie Raasch with multiple injuries to others. Deputy reports note driver Larry Margras survived with injuries.

Ample Moisture Lets Nebraska Farmers Plan For 1966

Nebraska farmers gain a favorable soil moisture outlook with top four feet holding a record 6.32 to 6.38 inches in western to southwestern districts, well above 10 year averages. The improved moisture supports winter wheat growth though late planting reduced plant height and some fields show erosion from wash.

Frontier Airlines saw a record 190 boardings in October at Sidney, the highest single month yet. Yearly performance remains short of the five a day target, with weather and earlier months affecting totals. year to date boardings total 1,340.

Council To Hear Of Federal Plans

A representative from the Division of Nebraska Resources will address the city council Thursday night at 7 30 to discuss a workable community improvement program and to provide details on a federal low cost housing for the elderly. Larry G Heeren will outline opportunities funded through federal loans for new community betterment and elderly housing programs previously discussed by the council.

Minatare Voters Decide On Low Cost Senior Housing Plan

Minatare residents vote Tuesday on authorizing a federally financed senior housing project. If approved, rentals would fund the loan, with units transferring to Minatare ownership in 40 years. Eligible residents are seniors 62 with income under 2300 per year or couples 62 plus with combined income under 2800. Monthly rents would be 35 to 45 dollars. Housing Authority members named: W. C. Uncle Sam Grants Cheyenne County Schools 38900

Cheyenne County schools may access 38885 under the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Sidney receives 24426 for educationally deprived children, funds must be spent by next September, with proposed uses including summer school and expanded library services. Local officials plan to present options to the school board next Monday.

Cable for the High Line Under Construction

Spools of cable are being unloaded here for a new high voltage transmission line east from Sidney. The project links Stegall Wyoming to Sidney and North Platte Nebraska, tying this region into an eastern grid. Tri-State Generation and Transmission Co builds the Stegall to Sidney segment. Consumers Public Power District handles the Sidney to North Platte portion. The multi million dollar press and other large construction jobs mark several months of activity in the state.

Higgins Jesse A native Gurley resident dies at 62

Jesse Arthur Higgins 62 of Gurley died in Memorial Hospital after two and a half months. Services are Thursday at 2 pm at First Christian Church Sidney with Rev Drexel von Forell officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery with Odd Fellows graveside rites. Surviving wife Myrtle a daughter Beverly Trandt of Columbus Neb a son James L a grandson Eric Traudt five sisters and one brother. Local Convention a Success Through Cooperation

Sidney Public School teachers welcomed the start of school after the NSEA convention recess. The District VI sessions in Sidney drew over 1,500 teachers, about 200 more than expected, with top speakers and strong program reception. Success credited to cooperation of teachers, Chamber of Commerce, businessmen and residents, plus shuttle service and hospitality.

Big Line Facing Delay In Nebraska 230 kv Grid

A lawsuit over a 1965 public power bill may slow the east west 230 kv transmission tie line across Nebraska. Segments from Stegall to Sidney and from Grand Island to Columbus proceed, but the Grand Island North Platte 139 mile stretch faces funding and need studies questions. The USBR and Tri State construct major switching stations and grid work while Loup District cites funding gaps and insufficient analyses. A separate Lions Band Pancake Feed Wednesday in Sidney, supporting the Rose Bowl trip and local projects, features pancakes eggs sausages and drinks with tickets $1 adults 50 cents kids. proceeds aid Little League sight conservation and other Lions efforts.

Hereford Show and Sale Scheduled in Alliance

Members of the Western Nebraska Hereford Association travel to Alliance for the 52nd semi annual show and sale. The event on Monday November 8 features a 9 a.m. show, a 12 30 p.m. sale led by auctioneer Robert Schnell, with Alfred Meeks as judge Tom C Allington as sale manager and Dr E Von Tour as veterinarian. Fifty five bulls are entered.

1871 Head Sold Saturday at Sidney Sheep Sale

The Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion sold 1,871 head of livestock at the Special calf Sale Saturday with hogs selling strong and a top of 23 dollars. A Sigman Packing Co. buyer from Brush attends the sale offering another order for all livestock. A special sheep sale is planned for Tuesday November 2. One Wyomington Signor ships 1,000 head of ewes for the sale. Other sheep listings are invited.
