In Deuel County over two weekends three head on crashes killed six people all mothers with children. Oct 23 near Chappell claimed Mrs Glenn Jarman Veronica and Danny Jarman. Oct 30 at Big Springs Junction killed Patricia Raasch Sally Raasch and Stevie Raasch with multiple injuries to others. Deputy reports note driver Larry Margras survived with injuries.

Sidney Public School teachers welcomed the start of school after the NSEA convention recess. The District VI sessions in Sidney drew over 1,500 teachers, about 200 more than expected, with top speakers and strong program reception.
