Lodgepole Area Gets Oil Test
A wildcat oil drilling venture began this week in Cheyenne County seven miles north of Lodgepole. Geologist Robert L. Cramer operates the No. 1 Wurtele in section 25, targeting the Skull Creek formation at about 4,250 feet. Nearby activity includes Allison Drilling Co. No. 1 ONeill in Scotts Bluff County, Ben J. Taylor's No. 1 Quick in Frontier County, and Skinner Corp.'s No. 11-28 Foley GESE in Frontier County, with Sleepy Hollow Field in Red Willow County noted as Nebraska’s largest producer. The Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission heard four permit requests, approving one unorthodox site east of Sidney and a waterflood program in Owl Field, Kimball County, while delaying another unitization proposal to December. A state oil-gas lease sale of Sec. 16-20-57 in Scotts Bluff County is set for Nov. 2.

Tragic head on crash injuries ripple through Jarman family
Nine Jarman family members were in a pickup when it collided with a car driven by Miss Mary Schlieker near Chappell. The crash killed Mrs. Jarman 37 and her children Veronica 16 and Danny 11.
