United Fund reaches goal in Sidney drive

Weather cooled by north-south low pressure in Nebraska

A broad trough of low pressure across the Great Plains pulled cooler air into Nebraska with a 26 degree low at Alliance and 60 in Omaha. Valentine topped Sunday at 74 as moisture possible tonight and Tuesday. Highs Tuesday forecast mid to upper 60s with lows mid 30s to upper 50s.

Kelly resigns from vo tech board

William G. Kelley of Sidney resigned today as a member of the Western Nebraska Technical Community College Area Board. He cited increased workload as administrator of Educational Service Unit 14. The resignation was mailed to Judge Albert Crites, Chadron, board chairman. Kelley helped found the board in 1973 and will not seek re-election to his term ending January. He supports incumbents Max Hensley and Dr. H C Q Nelson.

Voter registrations boost state Democrats

Nebraska voters show a narrowing GOP edge as AP analysis finds Republicans 48.97 percent, Democrats 46.25 percent, and Independents 4.72 percent. In the 3rd District the GOP lead shrinks. Democrats gain in Douglas and other counties, with Lincoln and Lancaster growing Democrats’ potential in the 1st and 2nd Districts.

City Council to Consider Electric Power Contract

Sidney City Council will review a five year electrical power contract with Wheatbelt Public Power District at tonight's meeting. City Manager Maynard Dill said Olsson & Associates will present a revised firm recommendation. Also on the agenda are planning for a 76 acre development east of town with utilities, a second reading on a gas rate increase to Dec 1, and multiple variance requests.
