Housing group forms to seek FHA loans for rental housing

The Cheyenne County Housing Association has incorporated as a non profit and will seek low interest FHA loan funding to build rental units for moderate income families and seniors. Officials say initial projects may be in Sidney with future builds in Dalton Gurley Lodgepole and Potter.

Daylight saving ends for most of the nation this Sunday

Clocks will be turned back one hour as the United States returns to standard time for the four winter months. The change ends 10 months of daylight saving under a Ford signed plan, with energy savings weighed against public opposition. Indiana, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and American Samoa stay on standard time. Seventy- six Kentucky counties revert from Central to Eastern Time, avoiding a clock change there.

Sidney United Fund Nears Goal Despite Gap

The Sidney United Fund needs 111 dollars to reach its 13 000 dollar goal. Within 48 hours a final donation is expected to push the drive past the target as Ed Cole and Barb Custer report late Thursday gifts not yet deposited and weekend contributions likely to arrive.

The Associated Press reports cooler dry air moving into Nebraska after overnight showers in central and eastern areas. High pressure from North Dakota brings clearing and lower temperatures with Friday night lows from the upper 50s to upper 40s and daytime highs about 70 in the southeast. Saturday should be warmer with 60s in the west. The day’s high reached 77 in Omaha and Lincoln, with a 28 degree overnight low at Chadron.

Lincoln AP reports a 6 pm deadline to register in Nebraska for the November 5 general election. Secretary of State Allen Beermann notes 768,091 registered across 89 of 93 counties as of October 15, with up to 400,000 eligible residents not yet registered. County courthouses and election offices will offer registration, and absentee ballots are available through November 1.

Sunol mishap kills California woman

Edna Snider 66 of Grass Valley Calif died in a one car crash on a county road seven miles south of Sunol Nebraska. She was returning from Gordon and lost control as she attempted to reach Interstate 80. Her car rolled several times and landed upright in a roadside ditch. She was thrown from the vehicle and died instantly police reported. A poodle in the car survived and was held by animal control. The accident was reported about 15 minutes after it occurred with help from Cheyenne County sheriff and Sidney police.
