California Woman Dies Of Injuries From Sept 24 Crash

An 86 year old Paradise California woman Mrs Gordon Amy Farren died in Chappell hospital from injuries suffered in a car truck collision four weeks earlier. Her husband Gordon H Farren 66 remains hospitalized with neck and back injuries and is expected to stay in hospital for about three weeks. The crash occurred September 24 six two miles east of Chappell on U S Highway 30 when a westbound truck driven by Wayne Young 28 of Ogallala attempted to pass a car pulling a trailer and struck the Farren car. Young was uninjured. The death marks Nebraska 274th fatality in 1958 as of that date.

Two New Polio Cases Reported in Nebraska

Nebraska's Health Department tallies two new polio cases for the week but notes the yearly total rose by only one due to correcting an earlier misdiagnosis. The year now shows 128 cases, up from 27 a year ago. One case involves a 16 year old Clay Center boy with paralytic polio who had not been vaccinated. another is a non paralytic case in a seen year old Omaha boy who had one Salk shot.

Workers Unite For Sidney United Fund Drive Goal

United Fund appeal led by Vern Anthony urges workers to contribute before Saturday deadline. Team captains report $6,000 raised of $15,000, about 40 percent, with firms urged to increase giving to reach 65 percent of the total by month end. Last check-in is Saturday 1 to 3 p.m. at Dr. Nelson’s office.

Former Sidney Lad Undergoes Heart Surgery in San Francisco

Randall Meahan seven year old son of A. C. Meahan now living in Rollingwood Calif underwent a three hour open heart operation October 14 at the University of California Medical Center San Francisco to correct a congenital defect between heart chambers. Dr Benson Roe led a team of nine as the heart lung machine made the delicate work possible. The patient was expected to be out of bed in a few days and back in school within weeks. If unrepaired the defect could have proved fatal in his teens.

Sidney Hosts Peace Institute For Christian Action

Sidney hosts an Institute on Planning for Peace and Christian Community Action Thursday organized by the Nebraska Council of Churches. Representatives from local churches attend, with sessions at Light Memorial Presbyterian Church from 2:30 PM for pastors and chairmen, and 6 PM for the public.

Denver Girl Wins Shoppers Prize

A Denver teenager Kathy Moore won the Shop portunity Days first prize awarded Saturday. She received a 3,000 speed kit and a Polaroid Land Camera. Sidney Girl 12 Hurt In Bicycle Accident

A 12-year-old Sidney girl Pam ela Jacobs suffered severe cuts to her mouth and lips and lost a tooth when thrown from a bicycle on a dirt road near the Country Club. Pamela, daughter of Mrs ernice Jacobs, rode with Gloria Filsinger 11, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orvill Filsinger. Gloria was taken to a doctor and is home in good condition.

Sidney Jaycees Bosses Night honors awarded

Joe A. Gibson was named Boss of the Year by the Sidney Jaycees at their Bosses Night program attended by about 125 members and employers. Vern Anthony received the Distinguished Service Award for community work and leadership roles. Bob Lafler earned the Key Man award for outstanding Jaycee service over the year. Kokjer Motor Co. was thanked with a certificate of appreciation. State leader Myron Milder gave the keynote on leadership training through community service.

Wheat disposal deadline set for June 15 in 1969

Don Kapp, manager of the Sidney ASC office, states the disposal date for destroying excess wheat is June 15 1969. The deadline was originally June 1 and later moved to June 10 before final confirmation by Panhandle ASC committees and former requests to a later date for better timing.
