Early Day Resident Of Sidney Is Dead
Jacob J. Cramer, 89, an early Cheyenne County settler, died October 12 in Kearney after months of ill health. Born May 21, 1858 in Evans Illinois, he married Leona Swisher in the 1880s. They lived in Sidney Nebraska, then near Dalton, later Bridgeport. Surviving are Leona, three sons James Gordon of Casper Wyoming Eugene of Pasadena California Paul of Spokane Washington a daughter Verna McDaniel of Cheyenne Wyoming a sister Julia Avery of Boulder Colorado five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. One son Guy Wellington preceded him in death.

The funeral ship Honda Enrot docked in San Francisco carrying 3028 war dead, including Captain Clarence Southard formerly of Dalton. He died July 13, 1945 in Hawaii during a spear fishing accident. his body will be buried at Custer Battlefield National Military Cemetery in Hardin Montana. His aunt Mrs H R Batmbach notified relatives. Captain Southard served three years in Europe with the Army Air Forces and awaited orders for the Pacific theater. He was a son of Mr and Mrs FE N Southard, now residents of Fairfield Montana, and a grandson of Mrs Ella Wood.

A Friday night crash on a Dalton road left heavy damage to a 1938 Chevrolet driven by Frank H. Krauter and a 1935 Chevrolet driven by W S Woolsey. Both vehicles struck wheels to the left front after sideswiping about halfway between their homes. Mrs Krauter sustained minor cuts and bruises. the other occupants were uninjured.

Leon Lafler Recovers at Home After Hip Injury
Leon Lafler, a farmer southeast of Sidney, returned home last Friday to continue convalescence from a fractured hip suffered when a bull attacked him last July. Treated at Taylor Hospital, he wore a cast for eight weeks before a bone specialist from Omaha operated using a Smith-Peterson pin. He is learning to walk on crutches and hopes to discard them soon.
