Sid ney Band Festival brings fifteen high school bands to Sidney High School football field for inaugural event. Sponsored by the Sidney Band Auxiliary, trophies and certificates will honor superior and excellent ratings with a special trophy for the day's outstanding band. Gate fees support expenses. adults 50 cents, children 25 cents. Bands will be inspected then perform eight minutes of maneuvering.

Extension Leader Meetings Are Set
Miss Dora Huestle announces several extension club sessions for Sidney area women. A training on Personalizing Christmas Cards will be held October 22 at Mrs. Carl Uhimschneider's Lodgepole home, with attendees from Sidney urged to contact Uhimschneider or Huestle. A Friday meeting updated the extension constitution and mailed proposed changes to presidents. An officers training for retiring and new officers is set for October 28 in the City Auditorium dining room with Miss Ethel Saxton.

Allotment By Bushels Is Proposed At District Meeting
A strong protest against wheat allotments on an acreage basis was registered Tuesday at the semi annual meeting of District I of the Farmers Union at Gurley. A resolution favored changing the wheat allotment to a bushel basis and will be sent to the State Farmers Union. Henry Gell of Sidney was reelected District I chairman with Ray Crawford of Alliance as vice chairman and Russell Olsen of Lodgepole as secretary. Main speaker Ross Handley of Gurley explained state group workings. Carl Mahr of Sidney spoke on the Farm ers Union legislative meeting in Grand Island and the national farm program. The next meeting is likely in early April at Alliance or Berea.

Riley Lintz of Big Springs was one of 35 victims of the Leyte explosion and fire. Son of Mark Lintz, a renowned Devel County rancher, Riley attended Sidney schools and graduated from Big Springs rural high. He served in the Navy as AO 3 at the time of his death. his brother Larry is a Navy veteran farming near Big Springs.

Rex Meyers of Alliance was elected president of district 7 of the Nebraska School Boards Association at a meeting in Alliance. Myers is chairman of the Alliance Board of Education and helped form the district 7 group. Robert Cape of Dalton was named vice president and Claude Soulis as treasurer. Mrs. Leo Rice of Bridgeport resigned as secretary. the executive board will appoint a replacement. Scottsbluff invited the next meeting to be held there, scheduled for early December before the state association meeting in Kearney January 18 and 19. Dr. Frank G. Fire Destroys Small Building On Toledo
A small storage building on west Toledo street burned Monday when nearby weeds ignited it. Outside the city limits and distant from a fire hydrant, firefighters used a tank truck to extinguish the blaze. The structure and its contents, including old containers and a two wheel trailer, were ruined. Owner is C. S. Radcliffe.

Pardon Board Plans Griffith Hearing for Wednesday
The Board of Pardons delayed Griffith’s hearing until the next regular meeting this Wednesday October 21 with all three members expected to attend. Griffith was sentenced to die in the electric chair for murdering his estranged wife Anna. the state supreme court denied a motion for rehearing and set an execution date of October 16. Gov Crosby granted a 30 day reprieve.

State Crew Checks Site of Subway at 13th Avenue Crossing
The state highway department moved a surveying crew into Sidney to survey and test the 13th Avenue crossing for the proposed subway project. District Engineer Tom Middleschwartz said the work could extend to the end of the week as crew members take elevations grades and soundings to finalize the location before design can begin.

Former Potter Resident Dies
William Waite, 82, a former Potter resident, died October 8 at Santa Rosa, California, from pneumonia. Funeral and burial rites were held there. He spent about 20 years in Potter before moving in 1938 to Cloverdale, California, to live with his son Harrison. Surviving are two sons, Edgar of Geyersville and Harrison, a daughter Susan Farquhar of Oakland, a grandson Wallace, and two great grandsons.

He joined Trans World Airlines in 1945 to direct Air World Education Program and works with educational institutions to promote Air Age awareness.
