Griffith Hearing Set For November 30
The State Parole Board set a hearing for November 30 at the penitentiary on the commutation plea of Hugh Griffith a former oil field worker sentenced to die for the murder of his wife Anna at Sidney in the summer of 1952. The Supreme Court affirmed the death sentence and earlier denied a rehearing. Gov Crosby granted a reprieve after an application for commutation to life was filed by Capt Walter Kennedy Lincoln Salvation Army officer who has visited Griffith regularly.

Two Injured In Truck Bus Wreck Here
Two men were hurt early Wednesday when an American Bus Lines bus collided with a pickup at 17th and Illinois in Sidney. Driver Bob Wolcott and passenger Arnold Rixen, both from Sidney, were hospitalized at Taylor Hospital after the crash which involved the bus turning left across the pickup’s path as the vehicles moved east on Illinois. The impact threw the pickup to the northeast corner. Wolcott was ejected. A bus passenger provided the account and noted no signal from the pickup driver.
