Misti Selzer Fund Opens In Sidney

A fund was opened Thursday at Sidney National Bank by Edward Bauman to help cover medical costs for 44 year old Misti Selzer daughter of Mr and Mrs Bob Selzer of Sidney. She has a malignant brain tumor and has been treated at multiple facilities including Memorial Hospital in Houston Mayo unspecified location. Contributions are to be made to the Misti Selzer Fund at the bank or Telegraph offices with checks payable to the fund.

NCIP Awards Day to Recognize Nebraska Progress

Nebraska communities will be honored October 24 in Lincoln at the 12th annual NCIP Awards Day. About 1,000 attendees are expected for sessions at the Radisson Cornhusker Hotel and an Awards Banquet at the UNL Student Union. Sidney is a finalist. Richard Poston will give the keynote, and Lt. Gov. Whelan will present completion certificates.

Trial of Barbara Swayze in Cheyenne County moves to third day

The Cheyenne County District Court enters day three of Barbara Swayze's trial on charges of assault with intent to murder for allegedly abandoning her newborn at the Lodgepole State Wayside near Kimball in June 1974. A passerby found a crying baby in a plastic bag beneath a restroom pit. the child is in foster care. Jurors selected include 10 women and 2 men. witnesses have testified.

Open house Sunday at Fort Sidney Officers Quarters

The Cheyenne County Historical Association invites the public to an open house Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Ft. Sidney Officers' Quarters to show progress on the duplex renovation. The site is at 6th Ave and Jackson St. Members who join for $1 receive a square nail from the house.

Papers mailed to aid refugee family in Sidney

The Sidney Community Refugee Committee nears completion on resettling a refugee family possibly nine members. They will mail an application to authorities and seek housing, with estimated costs of about $100 per month per person until permanent housing and work are secured. The committee invites local civic groups to assist in kind with furnishings once housing is obtained.

Exon calls Nebraska special session for budget cuts

State Sen. Robert L. Clark says he needs more information from Lincoln before backing the special session called by Gov. Exon to trim a 7 million shortfall. Exon seeks a 3 percent across the board cut and authority to delay payments to local governments and schools to avoid a January treasury deficit.
