Sidney Community Improvement Program advances to the finals in the Nebraska Community Improvement Contest for the third straight year. Judges including David Peterson and Tom Parsons visited Sidney to evaluate projects. winners will be announced at the Lincoln Awards Day banquet on Oct 24.

Sidney Council tables K N rate increase request

Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Co officials sought an average 25 percent rise in Sidney gas rates citing higher capital labor and material costs. The proposal would raise typical yearly bills about three dollars per month. The council also heard Wheat Belt Power District on peak demand and approved a waste rate update and funding for the Verde Lane ditch project.

North Platte picked for Health Systems Agency HQ

The 71 County Interim Health Systems Agency Task Force chose North Platte for the central offices by an 18 to 7 vote over Grand Island. It will hire an executive director and form a 30 member board with nursing, medical, consumer, and official representation. A minimum staff size will follow federal law, with details to be finalized at the November 10 Grand Island meeting. Panhandle members include Frank Partsch of Sidney and Rick Gamel of Chadron.

Sidney School Board reviews plan for additions

The Sidney Board of Education discussed tentative plans for additions to three Sidney schools at its October meeting. Lincoln city architect Dean Arter said the drawings reflect input from the board and teaching staff about needs driving construction.

The Sidney United Fund tops 22 percent of its 15000 dollar goal with 3285 dollars raised as advance gifts arrive. Drive directors met to kick off the business drive led by chairman Frank Partsch and materials await workers who did not attend. The neighborhood portion starts next week.

Exon Proposes Four Point Plan for Special Session

Governor James Exon announced a four point program for a special session starting Oct 22 to address cash flow and a potential $10 million January deficit. He urged 3 percent across the board cuts, tax rate stability, new State Board of Equalization formulas, and authorizing delay of selected state expenditures. Exon also said he will not seek the 1976 U.S. Senate nomination to avoid political motives.

Court limits exemptions to federal gas price controls

The Supreme Court refused to review a ruling that blocked 180 day exemptions from interstate gas price controls. Congress now decides whether to allow such exemptions which would offer limited relief from a looming 2.9 trillion cubic feet shortage as FPC pledges enforcement of delivery obligations.
