Nebraska reports another Cheyenne County discovery at No. 1 Hawkins and more wells active in Morrill Scotts Bluff and Banner counties. Enbrook Oil and Gas Co. completed 900 feet of oil in the D sand at No. 1 State near Sidney, with Toltek Drilling as contractor. Wildcat and development tests continue across the state as the Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission issues new permits.

Nebraska Department of Revenue reports Cheyenne County and Sidney taxable sales declined in the first half of 1970. County total January–June sales reached 8.964 million versus 9.910 million in 1969, with Sidney at 8.114 million down from 9.-? million last year.

Kissack accuses governor of manipulating tax rates

John Kissack of Scottsbluff the Democratic nominee for State Treasurer charged Gov. Norbert Tiemann with manipulating income tax rates for political gain. He said the rate was kept at 13 percent then cut to 10 percent on Sept. 22, a move he called deceptive to lower income groups. He suggested a 12 percent rate with reduced sales tax to balance revenue, about 70 million dollars from each tax.

Temperature Spread in Nebraska Last Month

Lincoln Weather Bureau reports an 88 degree temperature spread across Nebraska in September. Gavins Point reached 104 degrees on September 6 while Agates dropped to 16 degrees on September 26. September precipitation varied from half the normal in the Panhandle to nearly double the normal in eastern Nebraska.
