The presentation, by E K Yanney for First State Bank and Farmers Co op Elevator, honored a colored aerial photo of the From farm with Interstate 80 nearby. The Froms became cooperators in 1949 and signed a 1962 Great Plains conservation plan for 2400 acres including wells, pasture, terraces, seeding, contour farming, diversions, dams, bench leveling, and a center pivot.

Young Airman Dies In Auto Collision
Staff Sgt. Jon David Mott of Bridgeport Connecticut 25 died in a highway crash near Potter Cheyenne County while en route to leave for Thailand. He was in a 1970 Dodge Charger that overturned after colliding with a westbound camper trailer carrying a Jeep. Clarence Gifford of Dayton Ohio drove the camper. no others were injured. The accident marked Cheyenne County’s third traffic death in 1970. The airman’s remains were sent to Bridgeport for services and interment, funeral home handling local arrangements.

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Agency probe a crash four miles south of Sidney Nebraska that killed Apple Valley California surgeon Dr. William C. Van Fleet 43. The plane burst into flames on impact and two potential causes include turbulence from a Frontier Airlines jet or loss of control at low altitude. The flight had originated from Council Bluffs Iowa to Pinedale Wyoming en route home from a Chicago medical convention. Dr. Van Fleet’s body was taken to Denver for cremation.
