State VFW Meeting Opens On Saturday

Nebraska auxiliary delegates from 120 VFW posts will be hosted by Porter McGuver Auxiliary of Sidney at the Fall VFW Conference in Lincoln. Officers include Mrs. And Trimpey and others. sessions at City Auditorium feature School of Instruction and council and business sessions. Events span Friday registration, Saturday social hour, banquet, and Sunday services.

Vets Benefits Meeting Planned At VFW Post

All veterans are invited to attend the Veterans Information Meeting at the VFW post on the 2st and Illinois tonight at 8 pm. L. A. Durfee of Lincoln, VFW State Service Officer, will discuss benefits under state and federal law. Free coffee and doughnuts will be served.

Senator Carpenter attacks road department consultants in Omaha projects

Lincoln State Senator Terry Carpenter criticizes the State Department of Roads for using outside consulting engineers on Omaha interstate work. He says planning is unrealistically siphoning a million dollars to consultants while Lincoln area projects are handled by department engineers. Senator Russillo counters that two complex interchanges and urban problems necessitate outside experts. He notes the Federal Bureau of Roads scrutinizes all consultant plans and that other states rely on consultants for interstate work.

VFW Fall Conference Brings Veterans to Sidney Nebraska

About 250 to 300 veterans and auxiliary members from 120 VFW posts in Nebraska gathered in Sidney for the annual state VFW Fall Conference. Registration ran 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fort Sidney Motor Hotel with a veterans benefits session and a service officer school planned. A banquet, dance, worship service, and business sessions followed across Fort Sidney and city venues.

A mixed precipitation episode hits Sidney with rain sleet and snow pelted the area Friday morning. Government Day Set for November 23 in Cheyenne County

Sidney Woren Bruised In Minor Collision

Sidney woman Alma M. Wuthier was bruised when her car struck a parked vehicle owned by Thurman Crawford after she reached for a falling package and eggs while turning from 13th onto Osage. Police cited the minor crash as the cause.

Firemen Scramble for False Alarm Near Sidney

Sidney firemen were dispatched to a smoke call five miles east and two miles south of Sidney Tuesday afternoon but found no fire. Two Escape Injury In 2 Vehicle Mishap

Two Sidney residents escaped injury when two vehicles collided on the west approach of a bridge on the southwest edge of Sidney. Eileen Hutchison headed west and Rolland Biggs drove east in a truck. About $80 damage to Hutchison car. no damage to the truck. No injuries reported.

Plantz Cited For Soil Work and Panhandle SCS Unit Formed

Jagee Plantz, a conser vationist at the Sidney Soil Conservation Service office, received a special merit award for outstanding achievement in conservation practices in Cheyenne County. The event, held in Scottsbluff, also honored Henry Lisec of Mitchell with a ten year service certificate. A Panhandle chapter of the Soil Conservation Society of America was formed during the Scottsbluff session, with 45 charter members and officers Lloyd Anderson, Ivan Griffith, and Henry Lisec.

Oil and Gas Commission Holds Public Hearing On Rules

About 75 oil and gas industry representatives attended a public hearing at the Nebraska courthouse with the Oil and Gas Commission on proposed conservation rules. The commission approved a two mill levy to fund its activities and heard discussions on well spacing and access to records. Chair G H Doran and others participated with State Geologist I C Reed leading rule drafting. The site of a permanent headquarters and the director’s position remain to be determined.
